Thermic Effect of Food: Protein, Fats, Carbs, and Free Calories!

In a process called “Thermic Effect of Food”, 30 percent of the calories in each gram of protein ingested is burned off to digest and process that protein. So in effect if you ingest 60 grams of protein which is 240 calories, 72 calories will be used to digest and process that serving of protein leaving you with a net of 168 calories total. The TEF of Fats is only 3% while Carbs vary depending on what type of Carb it is maxing out at 20% for high fiber vegetables. This is just another reason why a high protein diet is the healthiest and the best choice for improved body composition.

Protein, it's what's for dinner...and breakfast and lunch and snack
