My name is Scott Mailman and I am committed to helping you get healthier and in better shape. I have been a fitness enthusiast for over 15 years and in that time I have done a lot of experimenting to see what works and what does not. Of those 15 years I would venture to say that only in the last 3 years can I honestly say that I am doing things the right way. I spent years experimenting with different training modalities, cardio only, using weight machines exclusively because I didn’t know how to really lift, lifting heavy with powerlifting and strongman training, and finally and currently a good mix of everything I learned before . Of course all that training was done with very little emphasis on my nutrition. I thought if I worked out hard enough and drank some protein shakes I didn’t have to worry about my nutrition. That may in fact be true if you do not care much about how you look or being healthy. The fact is if you want to perform well in the gym, be healthy, and look good you have to focus on your training as well as your nutrition with more of an emphasis on the nutritional aspect.
I’m concerned about your health. I’m concerned about the health of most of the people I see and encounter on a daily basis. America has become, on the whole, an unhealthy society. There are many reasons why, some that can’t be helped and some that can. I am here to help as many people as I can become healthier. The best way for me to do that is to use the knowledge that I’ve gained and present it to you in ways that are easy to digest and employ. There is no one secret to getting healthy, losing weight, looking better, or lifting more, every goal takes hard and smart work. We have been programmed by television, food companies, friends and family, and our own government to believe certain things about health, nutrition, and fitness. Sadly most of what has been programmed into us is wrong and in many cases the opposite of what we should be doing.
I am an avid reader and soak up information like a sponge. I follow and voraciously read some of the top minds in the fitness industry. I’m not talking about the skinny 19 year old trainer from the big box gym. I’m talking about proven men that have put years into their craft and have perfected their training, nutrition, and health. I have learned much from these sources and have put it to great use on myself and other people I have worked with. This blog will be a chance for me to help take what I’ve learned, and help others, from beginners to the advanced and everyone in between.
